Transform Your Kitchen Space

Hello, my name is Katy and this blog is dedicated to how you can improve the interior of your home. Last year, I renovated my kitchen and it completely changed my life. Although I am really happy with the results, I didn't expect it to be so challenging. I kind of jumped in at the deep end, ripped my old kitchen out and then realised I had no idea how to install a new one or even what design I would like to choose. Thankfully, my friend who is a bit of an expert at these things guided me through the entire process and I learnt a lot of useful things. Since then, I have started to rennovate the rest of my home and garden.

Home Improvement Services You Can Get At a Hardware Store

If you are trying to do a DIY project at home, or you are doing some remodelling work such as laying down a wood floor or installing window coverings, a hardware store may offer you one-stop shopping for all the materials you need. To help you understand the value of this type of store, here are some of the home improvement services they can offer you:

Pipe Cutting/Threading -- If you are going to lay down new pipes for your front yard or backyard, a hardware store can cut the pipes to the specifications you need, and thread the pipes as well. Unless you are a true DIY expert, pipe cutting isn't a task that you should do haphazardly, because pipes that aren't properly sized can burst and cause major flooding, which is expensive to repair.

Threading are the ridges at both ends of a pipe that enables you to attach different pipe sections together. Hardware stores use pipe threader machines to thread iron pipes.

Computerised Paint Colour Matching -- If you are going to paint the interior of  your home or the exterior of your home, a hardware store can offer computerised paint colour matching, which lets you bring in a sample of carpeting, flooring or fabric, and have it matched using a computer that scans the colour pigments, then finds the exact match for your painting needs. Most hardware stores will also retain the colour you choose in their database just in case you need to use that same colour again in the future.

Equipment /Tool  Rental -- You don't have to go out and spend a ton of money on equipment and tools for your DIY home improvement project, when it's much simpler to just rent it from a hardware store. If you're laying down a wood floor and you need an electric saw, you can rent it instead of paying for a new one that you probably won't use again for another few years.

This also applies to equipment such as carpet cleaners, wood floor sanders and pressure washers that can strip an exterior wall in preparation for painting and finishing. You can even rent a set of common tools such as a screwdriver, pliers, wrenches and bolt cutters.

Timber Cutting -- Timber is one of the most used DIY material people use in home improvement, whether it's to build shelves, tables, benches or some other kind of furniture. When you need that timber cut to precise specifications, a hardware store's lumber department can offer you free cutting as long as you purchase your wood in-house. However, you can also pay a nominal fee for wood purchased at a lumber seller that you bring into a hardware store to have cut.
