Transform Your Kitchen Space

Hello, my name is Katy and this blog is dedicated to how you can improve the interior of your home. Last year, I renovated my kitchen and it completely changed my life. Although I am really happy with the results, I didn't expect it to be so challenging. I kind of jumped in at the deep end, ripped my old kitchen out and then realised I had no idea how to install a new one or even what design I would like to choose. Thankfully, my friend who is a bit of an expert at these things guided me through the entire process and I learnt a lot of useful things. Since then, I have started to rennovate the rest of my home and garden.

How to Choose Between Curtains and Blinds

The first decision you have to make when deciding on how to dress a window is whether to choose curtains, blinds or both. Curtains and blinds from companies like Aussie Curtain Call Interiors can create a warmth and softness in a room. Depending on the chosen style, they can easily blend with the décor or make a statement of their own. Both curtains and blinds possess their own set of advantages and disadvantages; therefore, the final decision will be primarily based on your personal preference.

When deciding whether to have curtains or blinds, there are various factors that come into play in determining the most suitable choice for you. These include functionality, maintenance and installation of both types of window dressing options.

Functionality

The two main functions of curtains and blinds are providing privacy and light control while enhancing the aesthetics of the room.

  • Curtains

Curtains come in materials ranging from light to heavy and these greatly influence the ability to control light in a room and obstruct views. There are sheer type curtains which are mostly used for aesthetic purposes. They provide little light control and privacy but ad a soft, subtle style to the room. Heavy curtains block most of the light when closed and offer maximum privacy. They can be adjusted to regulate flow of light in the room. Alternatively, they can be matched with sheer curtains for better functionality.

  • Blinds

Blinds allow easy regulation of the amount of light flowing into a room through the use of a hanging rod. The blind slats are designed in a way that they allow maximum privacy while allowing flow of light into the room. You are able to enjoy light flow with adequate privacy as opposed to curtains where you may have to compromise one for the other.

Maintenance

This is another important factor when choosing between curtains and blinds. You may want to go for an option that is flexible and cost effective when it comes to maintenance and cleaning.

  • Curtains

Curtains require little maintenance and cleaning except in cases where there are spills or stains. You can have your curtains cleaned one in two or three months. Lighter curtains can be easily cleaned at home using a washer while heavier curtains may require commercial cleaning. This low maintenance requirement is cost effective and less stressful.

  • Blinds

Unlike curtains, blinds require regular cleaning and maintenance at least weekly or monthly. This is because they tend to attract dust and debris more quickly. Cleaning of blinds can easily be done regularly through dusting using a synthetic duster. One downside of blinds is that they are not suitable for use where there is an individual with dust allergies.

Installation requirements

Installation of curtains is an easy and simple process that any homeowner can carry out without professional help. One just needs to have a rod, rod hooks, screws and a drill. On the other hand, installation of blinds is quite complex and requires an expert to do it. This will attract installation costs in addition to buying.

That said, it is possible to have both blinds and curtains in your home. That way, you get to enjoy ultimate functionality and appearance advantages. When having a combination of both, ensure they complement the style and decor and improve the mood of your home.
