Transform Your Kitchen Space

Hello, my name is Katy and this blog is dedicated to how you can improve the interior of your home. Last year, I renovated my kitchen and it completely changed my life. Although I am really happy with the results, I didn't expect it to be so challenging. I kind of jumped in at the deep end, ripped my old kitchen out and then realised I had no idea how to install a new one or even what design I would like to choose. Thankfully, my friend who is a bit of an expert at these things guided me through the entire process and I learnt a lot of useful things. Since then, I have started to rennovate the rest of my home and garden.

Outdoor Entertaining Tips: Ways to Get More Shade On Your Backyard Patio

If you intend to entertain outdoors on your patio, you need to do more than get outdoor dining furniture and set up a nice grilling area. You also need to have plenty of shade on the patio, so that your guests remain comfortable even on the hottest days. Here are some ways to improve the shade on your patio.

Hang Lattice Above the Patio

An easy and effective way to get more shade on your patio, without covering it completely, is by using lattice. Often use as fencing, lattice can also be hung over the patio like a roof. What this does is block the intense sunlight, but still provide enough sun for container gardens and extra lighting during the day. It is also cost-effective and will be considerably less than if you were to get a pergola over the patio. Lattice usually comes in natural wood or white painted wood, but you can easily paint it any colour you like. On days when you want more shade or added weather protection, drape fabric over the top of the lattice.

Install an Awning

Awnings are frequently used to provide shade on patios due to how convenient they are. You can get an awning that is always up, which won't cost as much. These often come in a variety of colours and patterns, so you are sure to find one that matches your outdoor décor style. Another option is to get a retractable awning, which you can control with the push of a button. The benefit of retractable awnings on the patio is that you can open it when you need shade, but keep it closed when you want full sunlight.

Hang Plants From the Roof

Adding plants around your patio provides more colour and style, and creates a comforting appeal for anyone sitting on the patio. Another option is to hang them from the roof of the patio. Not only does this add an interesting array of colours, but the plants bundled together can also provide you with excellent shade. You just need to be careful when watering them so the water doesn't drip down on you while entertaining guests. You can hang them from a pergola, lattice, or other style of patio roof.

Get a Cabana

For more of a beach or tropical look in your backyard, why not create an area of the patio where you can have a cabana? These make it look just like a poolside retreat, with a simple canvas cabana that protects you from inclement weather and offers excellent shade.
